State Licensing Rhode Island
To become a licensed insurance adjuster in Rhode Island, individuals must:
- Be 18 years of age or more.
- Residents of Rhode Island and nonreciprocal states must complete a criminal background check.
- New York residents must submit fingerprint cards.
- Massachusetts residents must complete a CORI request form.
Licensing Process
- The applicant must pass the state exam, administered by Prommisor. (If the applicant holds a resident license in certain states, she or he may be eligible have the exam waived. Please see "Reciprocity" below.)
- The Rhode Island Application for Claims Adjuster License must be filed, alternatively, the online application can be used.
- Adjusters applying for a non-resident license, who are not residents of reciprocal states, must complete the Criminal Background Report. Residents of Massachusetts complete a CORI request form instead.
- Residents of New York must submit a fingerprint card.
- Complete detailed instructions.
Reciprocity
- Applicants are exempt from taking the Rhode Island exam only if they are licensed in their home state and their home state is one of the following reciprocal states: Connecticut, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, or Wyoming.
Maintaining Your License in Rhode Island
- No Continuing Education is required.
- Licenses expire on the last day of the licensee's birth month.
- Adjusters can renew their license up to a year after it expires without retaking the exam, however a "reinstatement" fee will be charged.
