Insurance Claim Adjuster

Summary of Licensing Requirements: Individuals interested in becoming licensed in the state of Texas can do so in one of two ways:

 

Take and pass the state exam

Complete a certified adjuster pre-licensing course. Courses are available online.

Note: The state of Texas holds reciprocity agreements with many other states. For individuals licensed in one of these states no examination or course is necessary.

 

Texas License Requirements

-Applicant must be at least 18 years of age

-Applicant must be U.S. citizens or legal aliens who possesses a work authorization from the US Immigration and Naturalization Services

-Take and pass the Thompson-Prometric State Exam or

-Complete a certified adjuster pre-licensing course

-Applicants who currently hold a license in a state with the appropriate reciprocity agreement with the state of Texas do not need to take the exam or complete the pre-licensing course

Exemption: Adjusters who presently hold either an AIC (Associate in Claims) or CPCU (Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter) do not need to pass the state of Texas exam or complete the pre-licensing course.

 

The Licensing Processes

-The Texas adjuster application (form LHL206 (provide link?)) must be completed and submitted with the appropriate fees. The application fee is $50.00

-Applicants can then check the status of their application online with the Insurance Licensing Search and Renewal (provide link)

 

Reciprocity

-Non-resident applicants who currently hold a license in a state that has a reciprocity agreement with the state of Texas are not required to take the state exam or complete the adjuster pre-licensing course

Maintaining Your Texas Adjuster License

-The state of Texas requires that license holders complete 30 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years. Two of these hours must be in Consumer Protection and/or Adjuster Ethics. (Provide link to courses)

-License holders must renew there license. This can be done online with the Licensing Application to Renew License (provide link)
